QS rankings: US and UK unis lead but Asian countries excel

While US universities lead in 32 subjects, with Harvard topping 15 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology leading 11, UK universities excel in 18 subjects, with Cambridge ranking first in four. China, for example, had 100 entries in the top 50 in 2020. That number has now risen to 231, marking a 131% increase over five years.

UK international numbers rose to 680,000 in 2021/22

The 2021/22 figures indicate that total non-EU enrolments rose to 559,825 from 452,225 in 2020/21, while overall EU student numbers fell to 120,140 from 152,905 the previous year. The 350,325 non-EU first-year students had a rise of 32% compared with the 2020/21 academic year. A total of 46,350 non-UK PGR students enrolled in 2021/22.
