Canada ends ‘flagpoling’ for study permits at the border

Canadian immigration minister Marc Miller has said that work and study permits will no longer be provided to flagpolers at a port of entry, in an announcement on December 23. Flagpoling occurs when foreign nationals who hold temporary resident status leave and re-enter Canada through the US to obtain same-day services for immigration applications such as renewing study and work permits.

Germany forecast to welcome 400k international students

According to a DAAD snapshot survey, which included responses from 200 German universities, the country will be home to some 405,000 students in the 2024/25 winter semester, compared to around 380,000 in 2023/34. The number of international first-semester students has also risen to 88,000 this winter semester, compared to around 82,000 last year, the data showed.
