The recruitment of university leaders, or more specifically vice-chancellors and their equivalent, is an opaque process. Yet championing academics as university leaders assumes that university leaders persist with their academic identities. Reasons are manifold. One is remunerative.
As I have matured, I draw parallels between Shiz/Land of Oz and university life/academia, viewing it with a more seasoned perspective. Galinda represents those who comply with administrative directives in hopes of achieving their personal ambitions. Though some aspects have changed, much remains poignantly familiar.
