This mind-set is driven by the increasing importance of “corporate” leadership models as well as the growing predominance of STEM research culture in academia. Is it accessible to readers outside academia? And I don’t just mean that we need to better support those units on our campuses—although we do.
Also, don’t fully disregard liberalarts education since students still need a well-rounded education. The federal government alone uses dozens of definitions. Every state uses different definitions. So, it’s been a real challenge depending on what definition to use when discussing different institutions.
One solution to rising tuition costs would be that a large consortium of schools, e.g., PAC-12 schools or all Midwest liberalarts schools that happen to compete with one another, should announce they are not going to raise tuition by more than inflation each year for the next ten years. So whenever budgets are cut, tuition does go up.
And we agreed that there definitely were. we’re getting hit very hard with many of those things, but it, you know, kind of reminds me as well, Einstein’s definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So there were, common issues around, rising. interest rates are going up.
We are reminded that what’s happening in Florida is not just an isolated issue but a warning sign of the potential nationwide impact of political interference in academia. And that got me really interested in issues of intellectual freedom, free speech, and, once I did get back into academia, academic freedom.
Nearly two-thirds of students at UNF say that DEI programs have had a positive impact on their college experience and that the initiatives are “definitely not” discriminatory toward students, according to a recent survey by the student government. Students have also shown significant support for diversity initiatives in the state.
