This time, rather than exercise (although that may suffer, too), it is skills training and professionaldevelopment that can get neglected. If this is the case, what can we do to help keep professionaldevelopment continuous for researchers? Some things we might try So how can we get researchers back into training?
There are two words that often cause faculty to become disgruntled: professionaldevelopment. Although attending conferences may be the “go-to” idea for professionaldevelopment, there are many other avenues to pursue. So, for all of the #SAPro who can’t attend a conference, or those who just don’t like conferencing, we’ve come up with a list of other ways to continue to grow and develop in your roles: Volunteering.

I was pleased to wake up one morning last week to find Steven Mintz’s blog post for Inside Higher Ed “ The F Word ” awaiting me in my inbox. One of the more curious statements on this topic comes early in Mintz’s piece: “I feel certain that mandating ongoing professionaldevelopment in pedagogy is a nonstarter.”
GEM leaders need multifaceted strategies, including refined hiring practices, professionaldevelopment, and technology adoption, to stabilize and support their teams. For example, professionaldevelopment for higher education staff can add significant value for employees.
