While US universities lead in 32 subjects, with Harvard topping 15 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology leading 11, UK universities excel in 18 subjects, with Cambridge ranking first in four. The UK has 1,831 entries from 104 institutions this year, up from 1,797 in 2024.
Chinese institutions are continuing to improve in rankings, with eight new institutions included in the QS World UniversityRankings by Subject 2024, while the top 10 continues to be dominated by US and UK universities.
This rate nearly doubles at highly selective institutions and has remained stable for 50 years. The study involved combining national-level data on education, income and universityrankings with a 2017–2020 survey of 7,204 U.S.-based Morgan, a recent computerscience Ph.D.
Mexico accounts for a major chunk of the top universities in Latin America. Some 64 Mexican universities are included in the 2024 QS Latin America UniversityRankings , which highlights the top 400 institutions. Brazil is the only other Latin American country claiming more.
