A rise in blocked student visas is hampering the US sector’s growth compared to other popular ELT destinations, a report by EnglishUSA and BONARD Education revealed. Its second annual report on English language programs in the United States, published last week, revealed that students from India, Brazil, Türkiye, Colombia and China had the highest number of visa refusals in 2023.

The University of California system spent more than $29 million to manage pro-Palestinian protests on its campuses this spring, according to preliminary estimates obtained by the Los Angeles Times. General student arrivals in Malta in 2023 are just 5,000 less, or 6.1% lower, than the record levels in 2019, with 78,567 being latest figure compared to 2019’s 83,610.
