As universities grapple with the growing mental health crisis, it has become increasingly clear that campus environments themselves must be part of the solution. The solution isnt just providing more student support services but creating environments that actively foster student connection, wellness, and mental health.
While this premise seems far-fetched, the shows underlying critique of institutional control, bureaucratic systems, and dehumanizing workplace environments mirrors certain aspects of U.S. higher education administration. The college’s new institutionaldirection has ostracized legacy students and catalyzed a mass exodus among faculty members who don’t align with the state’s politics. Some faculty members whose identity or research does not align with the state’s viewpoint expressed it has created a hostile environment for them.
Ensure key personnel know their responsibilities under federal, state and local laws and institutionaldirectives. The political environment is fraught for many campus leaders, Miriam Feldblum, the Alliance’s executive director, acknowledged in what she called a “reality check” for administrators.
